Jeffrey Buntin, Sr. Addresses OAAA National Convention and Trade Show

May 11, 2007

San Diego, Calif. (May 11, 2007) – Jeffrey Buntin, Sr., chairman of Nashville, Tenn.-based Buntin Out-of-Home Media, was among the featured speakers this week addressing attendees here at the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA) 2007 National Convention and Trade Show.

Buntin discussed the role that outdoor advertising has played in building some of the country’s best known and respected consumer brands. Among the programs he examined was that of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, whose brand has become an icon of comfort to travelers by utilizing directional outdoor strategies for over 30 years – while building one of the most popular gift shop and dining chains in the U.S. along a hostile interstate highway system.

Comparing outdoor to other mass media advertising options, Buntin said, “Today, if I had to deliver one message, it is that outdoor is not TV – and be damn proud of it. In the mix of new media, outdoor can do things that TV can’t dream of.”

Buntin said he believes that with new production options and digital technology, advertisers can put exciting visual messages right where high-prospect customers are, “with unmatched precision and no waste. Television can’t do that. That is one reason we feel outdoor is a key medium for the new communications era.”

The OAAA convention attracted over 1,000 outdoor advertising industry executives, advertisers, agency professionals and public officials. OAAA is the largest trade association representing the outdoor advertising industry.

Other featured speakers at the convention included futurist Watts Wacker; Jeff Goodby, co-chairman of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners; and Jim Collins, author of “Good to Great.”
